Resolution is a count of pixels across and down. It can tell you whether an image has enough data for a target screen, but it cannot tell you whether the subject will fit behind the clock, whether the device will zoom the image or whether compression is visible.

Read dimensions in the right order

A 1024×1536 file is 1024 pixels wide and 1536 pixels tall. Its aspect ratio is 2:3. Many phones are taller than that, so a full-screen crop may remove material from the left and right or enlarge and trim the image depending on the picker.

The three downloadable Neon Waters files are PNG images with those exact dimensions. We do not label them 4K because that term is ambiguous across orientations and would overstate what the supplied files establish.

Separate resolution from aspect ratio

Two images can have many pixels but different shapes. A square source needs substantial top-and-bottom invention or side cropping to fill a tall phone. A horizontal source usually sacrifices even more of its original composition.

Choose the shape before choosing the number of pixels. For wallpapers, a portrait source with safe margins is generally easier to adapt. Square and landscape images remain useful when the subject is centered and the surrounding field can be cropped.

Preview the crop, not just the file

Place the source inside a frame matching the target screen ratio and use cover scaling. Move the crop only within the range the phone permits. Check whether the focal point and important contours remain inside the visible area.

A preview is illustrative unless it names the device and operating-system behavior tested. Neon Waters uses generic phone frames and does not present a concept mockup as a finished application.

Keep master and preview separate

A compressed WebP preview loads quickly on an editorial page. The download should remain the clearly labelled original PNG. Linking the preview file from a Download button would give the user a different asset from the one described.

Always verify the link, file extension and decoded dimensions after packaging. Also state the licence next to the download so technical availability is not mistaken for unlimited reuse rights.

Working takeaway

Check pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and real crop as three separate properties; download the labelled source, not the preview.
